MATCH PREVIEW | Rhinos Scholars back in action this Wednesday

Wednesday night sees Leeds Rhinos Under-16s Scholarship play their first minutes in over a month as Mark Butterill's side make the trip to The DIY Kitchens Stadium to take on Wakefield Trinity, kick off 7pm.

The halfway mark of the season saw the young Rhinos lose out 24-16 to Huddersfield in their first defeat of the campaign, but they look to rediscover their early-season form in the final four games of the campaign. Despite suffering that defeat, Leeds have still been one of the leading sides, with 32 tries contributing to 176 points being scored. Sonny Hetherington run of scoring twice in every game came to an end against the Giants, but the centre still leads the try scoring for the Rhinos with six, followed by Jack Mears (five tries), Noah Sheriffe and Jacob Tooala (both four tries).

Wednesday's game kicks off the second half of the campaign as Butterill's side prepare for tough tests against Wigan and St Helens at home, as well as an away game against Castleford in July.

Wakefield have had a mixture of results during the first half of their season as they come into this game with two wins and two losses in 2025.

Like Leeds, Ben Lazenby's side posted their biggest score of the year on Leigh as they ran in 72 points in round one, before losing out by two points to Huddersfield in a tight outing. Warrington inflicted a second defeat towards the end of April, but Trinity responded last time out as they edged Salford in a 26-16 triumph on the road.

They look ahead to games against Leeds and Hull KR at home over the next month, as well as away trips to Bradford and Hull FC.

Team News

Mark Butterill makes five changes from the side that lost out to Huddersfield at AMT Headingley at the start of May.

One change to the starting team sees Noah Sheriffe come back into the side, after he scored four tries against Leigh Leopards in a 66-point triumph, whilst the other four changes come on the bench. Full back Alfie Quinn is set for his first appearance after being sidelined with injury for most of the season, plus Joe Gill and Oliver Vincent are amongst the substitutes.

Jack Smith, Toby Weiland, Jacob Tooala, Alfie Steel and Henry Brough all drop out of the team that faced the Giants.
